Day 2 -August 30, 2025, Frankfurt

On day 2 we slept in really late. Coming in from the USA we did not go to sleep so we stayed up. Haven't done an all nighter in a long time. So we went to bed at 8:00 pm and slept until 10:00 am the next day. We went to the tallest building in town that has a observation deck. Went up some 50 floors and got a view of Frankfurt. A pretty flat place with some rolling hills in the distance. Germany doesn't allow urban sprawl. You have cities and small towns surrounded by agricutlture land. We then visited some of the squares in the city where there were lots of people. It is considered the German holiday season, so lots of Germans traveling. We wanted to eat at a sidewalk resteraunt. We found Hans and Franz's. Reminded us of the saturday night skit.
On the way back to the hotel, we got caught up in a large Palastine protest parade. It was 1000's of people. Once we realized we were not going to get anywhere due to protest and police we decided to sit on the curb and watch. It was a peaceful protest. We saw a group of Jewish people supporting their side of the issue. Both side were peacful. This is a fairly polical issue with genocide on one side and terrorist activites on the other side. This politcal issue has been going on since the creation of Palistine after WWII and many wars since. Not sure what the solution is to make peace. There is some much hate on both sides. We were suprised by how civil the people here were to each other. In the USA you would of had two sides going at it and third party agitators egging both sides on. We talked to police officer about this and they said this was a peacefull march but would not have been peaceful if it was in Berlin. We also talked to the police officers about how youthful their forces are. They 7 officers in this one van were all under 30. The yougest was 23. We only saw one guy over 50 out of about 50 cops. One young cop said the old guys do the train station duty as that is easier. We went over the Mein River in Frankfurt on a pedestrian bridge. There were tens of thousands of locks of love on the bridge. Think of our gum wall in Seattle except with locks. We swung by a large Catholic church to check it out. The oringal church was built in the 1400's. Many up grades over time. We ended up getting there right before mass so we stayed and went through the catholic mass in German. Tommorow is a travel day as we walk the mile to the train station to get to Koblenz.
